Essential Oil Junkey
My name is Emilly and I am addicted to essential oils. Over a year ago I was invited to an essential oils party. It’s the equivalent of a Tuppaware party. I genuinely love Tuppaware (not a mum thing, I’ve always loved it) so I was a little excited but never planned on buying anything. I went to be a bum on a seat and show support for my friend. I didn’t really know much about oils except that lavender was meant to relax you. The spiel was given about how amazing and life changing they were. How they would replace your cleaning cabinet, medicine cabinet and then turn you into a superhuman...blah blah. I was zoning out at this point. It all sounded a bit to good to be true. They were also super expensive and anyone who knows me knows that I count my pennies. I definitely don’t spend my money on anything I don’t truly value and most of that still comes from Kmart...you know you love Kmart.
I have always suffered from pain in my shoulders and neck and being pregnant at the time I was carrying around even more weight than usual. I was in agony. I tried the Muscle Ease oil blend that was on offer. Within seconds the pain and tension was gone. I actually couldn’t believe it. I started pushing on my shoulders and vigorously moving my head from side to side to test it out. Yep, gone. My mum even snuck off to the bathroom to remove her pants so she could rub the concoction all over her achey knees. The pain disappeared. It was instant. We were both hooked.
I started listening more and more about the benefits that oils bring. How with only 50 or so different oils you can make up to thousands of different mixes to alleviate basically anything. Ear aches, head aches, sleep problems, hormonal imbalance, asthma (all issues I have treated with my oil box, I haven’t used my ventolin once since using oils). These oils could be used for skin and hair products, on babies and for your cleaning. I stocked up on what I could afford at the time. Slowly building up my collection. I attended more parties on different topics and built up my knowledge as well. I can now tell you what to use for sleep, what to use to relax kids, or what to use to aid digestion. The list is endless.
There are many brands out there of essential oils but as with anything they aren’t all created equal. Amazing Scents Aromatherapy is the brand I highly recommend. Australian owned and excellent quality. The real benefit though is that they teach you so much knowledge to properly be able to integrate them into your life. You actually become aware of what you’re using and why. They aren’t premixed solutions. You buy the oil and mix it with a base oil. Knowledge is power, and this couldn’t be more true when it comes to essential oils. I’ve replaced my whole skin care, hair care, cleaning, even my toothpaste and deodorant with oils. You’ll find bottles and droppers in every draw of my house. From stress and anxiety, to relaxation and muscular blends, I’ve made them all. I’ve even got Michael reaching for the oils or pleading me to make him a cold and flu rub before reaching for the medicine box. Besides some heavy pain medication after my caesarian and an unfortunate but necessary round of antibiotics, I haven’t used any medication since I found Amazing Scents.
I’ll delve into how I use my oils more specifically at a later date but for now you’ll just have to take my word on the magic that is essential oils or maybe you’re already a self-confessed oily junky like me.
